Special Olympics of Delaware - Plane Pull which took place on Sunday, May 4, 2008 held at the Delaware Air National Guard base in New Castle.
The Delaware National Guard Plane Pull to benefit Special Olympics pits teams of 20 against a C-130 aircraft in a battle of strength, stamina and fun!
During the Plane Pull, teams of 20 compete against each other to see who can pull the C-130 aircraft 12 feet in the fastest time - and that’s no easy task, because a C-130 weighs 100,000 pounds, is 97 feet long, has a wing span of 132 feet and stands 38 feet high!
Held at the Delaware Air National Guard base in New Castle, the Plane Pull continues to grow in popularity each year, and since its inception in 1995 has raised more than $150,000 for Special Olympics Delaware.
It was a great event for high school organizations and sports teams, civic groups, businesses, clubs, military personnel and churches to come together to support Special Olympics. In order to participate, high school teams pay a $250 entry fee, while all other teams pay $500. The additional $250 entry fee for high school teams is generously covered by a sponsorship with Gore.

"It was a pleasure to wake up at 5 am on Sunday morning, May 4, for the 10th annual Special Olympics Plane Pull. I signed up with the TalkDelaware.com team (a website with forums, chat, news, and information in Delaware) after Chase (owner of TalkDelaware.com) started a thread and asked the members if they would like to participate and donate for a good cause. A few weeks passed and I thought to my self, hey why not it is for a good cause and also to meet some of the members that I exchange posts with."
"At 11:40 am we were up to pull the big C-130 plane, not only once but twice. Boy, it was harder than it looked. Our average time between the both pulls were 8.75 seconds. We came in 15th place, not bad for our first year."
"The gloves (Wrangler®) that were worn to pull the plane were supplied by one of TD's member, Tami and the company she is empoyed for. The Dunkin Donuts® & coffee were supplied by Dave (Zippy) and Kid."
"We had a good time and I'm looking forward to next year's Plane Pull."
