Launching a campaign based on hope, opportunity and change, Seaford resident and business owner Tim Smith traveled across Delaware on Wednesday, April 16, to announce his candidacy fro U.S. Senate.
He appeared at historical locations in New Castle, Dover and Georgetown, Smith shared his reasons for running for national office. "Washington is broken, and we need to fix it," Smith said. "If reelected, our current senator will have served 40 years, and he cannot possibly represent the change in Washington the people of Delaware desperately want to see."
"Delaware families are struggling financially, and Congress wants to burden us with one of the largest tax increases in out nation's history - exactly when it's going to hurt us the most."
Smith said as Senator, he will be responsive to the needs of Delaware's working families and will seek their input and guidance. He said his business background and experience will be an asset in working to enact policies that will spur economic development, job creation, and fiscal accountability. "Runaway spending, rising healthcare costs and a dwindling economy are just some of the serious problems facing average families all across our nation," he said. "I believe we need to once again focus on the founding principles that made this nation great and work to build new opportunities for future generations."
He also told supporters that as the son of an Air Force veteran, he appreciates the sacrifices made by military men and women and their families and will be a strong advocate for Dover Air Force Base and national defense issues.
"I am absolutely committed to this and look forward to talking with people from all corners of Delaware. I am humbled by the support and encouragement that I have already received and am grateful for the tremendous team of leaders who have come together on my campaign."
Smith, 41, is co-founder of Delmarva Digital, one of the region's leading Web Application Software developers. He and his wife, Ann, have been married since 1989 and reside in Seaford.
