No construction on Delaware’s beach routes this weekend
Dover – For the first time in several years, all major routes to Delaware’s beaches will be free of construction. According to officials from The Department of Transportation (DelDOT), motorists will have a much easier time accessing Delaware’s renowned resort beaches this summer season. There will be no lane closures, or major construction on any of the major beach routes in Sussex County this Memorial Day Weekend.
Major work on the vital east – west connection to Fenwick Island via Route 54 is complete, with all lanes open to traffic.

133 cited for seat belt violations during 1st wave of Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign 2012
Dover, DE – Delaware law enforcement officers issued 133 citations for seat belt violations during the first wave of seat belt enforcement for 2012. Coordinated by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, the two week long safety campaign (Jan 22-Feb. 5) focused on increasing seat belt use statewide with roving and stationary traffic safety patrols in towns and cities where data shows seat belt use is lacking.
Safety officials say that seat belt enforcement is necessary because Delaware has seen an increase in unbelted occupant fatalities from 34% in 2010 to 50% in 2011. Since January 1st ....

DelDOT opens to traffic the Indian River Inlet Bridge

At a ceremony held on Friday, January 20, the Indian River Inlet Bridge was officially open to passenger traffic.
Governor Jack Markell and senator Tom Carper drove the first passenger vehicle over the bridge a little after noon.
Effective on January 20, one lane of southbound traffic will be open. In a few days, one northbound lane will be open to vehicular traffic as well. All four lanes, pedestrian and bikeway are expected....

Crews in New Castle to work through the night
To combat the mix of snow and ice that will likely fall tonight, DelDOT crews in New Castle County plan to work throughout the night tonight.
“Even though our people will be working all night, drivers need to be alert to the fact there still may be slick spots on the roads overnight and tomorrow morning,” said DelDOT Secretary Shailen Bhatt. “In addition, drivers should never pass a snow plow when it is either applying salt, or if it has its blade down. Indian River Inlet bridge traffic pattern shift will occur Wednesday, November 2
Dover, DE – The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that beginning Wednesday evening, November 2, 2011, its contractor George & Lynch will be making a traffic pattern shift on Route 1, just north of the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The shift will be implemented to ensure continued road safety due to dune erosion adjacent to the northbound lanes.

Seaford area hit hardest by flooding
Seaford, DE – At least three roads will remain closed for at least a week, due to flood damage. Many other roads throughout Delaware remain closed due to high water, report officials from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT).
Three roads near Seaford will remain closed for at least a week, due to damaged bridges. Bridge inspectors and bridge designers made preliminary inspections of the bridges and determined that there is enough damage to keep them closed until a more exhaustive inspection can be conducted.

Roads, Bridges Closed in Seaford Area
Dover, DE – Officials from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) report that after an overnight deluge of rain, numerous roads and bridges are closed throughout Delaware this morning. Motorists are warned not to attempt to drive through flood waters, because currents can be faster, and depths can be deeper than they appear from the surface.
There are two sections of road in the Seaford that appear to be damaged. Those roads are Route 20, at Road 556, and Ellis Mill Road. Both of those roads have sections that appear to be washed out.

Dover, DE – As some roads in Delaware are still impacted from Hurricane Irene, much of the soil remains saturated, and streams remain swollen, Tropical Storm Lee is expected to deliver heavy rainfall over the next several days.

Governor signs bill cracking down on repeat DUI offenders making Delaware’s roads safer

I-495 & I-95 interstate bridge maintenance project will require nighttime closures funded by American Recovery & Reinvestment Act
Wilmington, DE – The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the Interstate Bridge Maintenance project will begin on Wednesday, June 15.
I-495 southbound on Bridge 1-702 between Exit 6/Naamans Road and Exit 5/Philadelphia Pike will be CLOSED at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 for the placement of the barrier wall. Microsurfacing will require lane closures in Kent & Sussex counties
Dover, DE - As part of the Delaware Department of Transportation’s (DelDOT) pavement and rehabilitation program, each year a number of roads are selected for a process called microsurfacing.
The contractor, Asphalt Paving Systems Inc., will be placing notices on the doors of the affected residences and businesses to advise them of the dates of lane closures. The work will begin on Monday, June 13 and end on Friday, July 15, pending weather. Lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Guardrail Project Will Require Lane Restrictions in Sussex County
Seaford–The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that M. L. Ruberton Construction and Safety, Inc., will be removing and replacing guardrails across Sussex County. During these safety improvements, motorists will encounter intermittent lane restrictions beginning on Monday, March 28 and ending on Friday, April 29, pending weather. DELDOT - growing in the wrong places?
Over the past five fiscal years the operating budget of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) has grown 18% while inflation rose 7%. So, DELDOT has been living large, yet the winners and losers inside the Department are curious.
The big winner with a 45% budget increase over the five years is the Motor Vehicles administration. Curiously, for those of us who have visited the DMV during the past year, according to their mission statement the DMV embraces “high standards of courteous, efficient and timely service.”

Portion of Beaver Dam Road closed for replacement of crossroad pipe
Lewes, DE - The Department of Transportation’s (DelDOT) Maintenance crews will close a portion of Beaver Dam Road between Indian Mission Road and Stockley Road near Lewes for the replacement of a crossroad pipe.
The closure is expected to take place at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22. The road will reopen on or before 3 p.m. on Friday, March 4, pending weather.
