Rebuilding Some Basics of Bethlehem: The Doctrines of Grace
We believe that these 5 truths are biblical and therefore true. We believe that they magnify God’s precious grace and give unspeakable joy to sinners who have despaired of saving themselves.
Total Depravity
Our sinful corruption is so deep and so strong as to make us slaves of sin and morally unable to overcome our own rebellion and blindness. This inability to save ourselves from ourselves is total. We are utterly dependent on God’s grace to overcome our rebellion, give us eyes to see, and effectively draw us to the Savior.
We were dead in our trespasses. (Ephesians 2:5)

International blasphemy Day
Ready for a day to honor blasphemy? According to press reports, September 30 is set as the observance of the first-ever International Blasphemy Day. This could be interesting.
The choice of September 30 looks back to that date in the year 2005, when the publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad's face sparked outcry and protests in the Muslim world and threats toward the West.
Now, as Religion News Service reports, the Center for Inquiry is planning a day of observances to mark the occasion. Ron Lindsay, a lawyer who serves as president of the Council for Inquiry Internation....

Secrets of Contentment, Part 1
In Philippians 4:11-12, Paul said, “I have learned to be content .. . I have learned the secret.” Here he useda Greek term pregnant with meaning—an allusion to the mystery religions of Greece. Initiation into those pagan cults involved becoming privy to certain religious secrets. Paul became privy to the secret of contentment, and it’s one he passed on to all who have been initiated by faith in Jesus Christ. Over the next few days we will consider several secrets to contentment, coming out of Philippians 4.
1. Confidence in God’s Providence
Paul said, “I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that ....

Profetas Menores

Why Church Attendance Has Declined
C. S. Lewis considered George MacDonald to be the greatest theologian of his day. And it was George MacDonald who said, “To give truth to him who loves it not is but to give him more plentiful material for misinterpretation.”
The Christian world frequently finds herself marveling at the world’s apathetic response to divine phenomena like the Bible’s many clear prophesies, the impeccable life of Christ, the archaeological substantiation of Scripture and the signature of God upon majestic creation.
But as blind as the world is to the clear proof of the Scripture's truth, much of the church....

How to Kill Sin in Your Life
The question is, “How do I kill sin in my life? How do I do it?” Let me give you some little principles — very basic and straightforward.
If you live by the Spirit and are headed towards eternal life because of your salvation, the Spirit in you gives the power to be killing the deeds of the flesh.
The question is, “All right, how do I do that? I agree that the power is there, that’s the bent of my life, that’s the way I am going. I want to see the Spirit do more and more of it. How do I get to that point? How do I gain that victory? How do I establish that habitual pattern? What do I do?”

The Heavens (and the Hubble) Are Telling the Glory of God
The images now flowing from the Hubble Space Telescope are simply stunning. Vast nebulae appear as delicate butterflies and the vast reaches of the universe are coming into new focus. All this comes after a feat of modern engineering and expertise as a rescue mission to the telescope last spring replaced two cameras and repaired broken equipment. The rescue mission cost approximately $1 billion, but the life of the orbiting telescope was extended at least five years.
No one envisioned this kind of longevity for Hubble when the telescope was first put into orbit in 1990. Named for astrono....

The Real Jesus.
Was the Triumphal Entry Tragic or Triumphant?
Palm Sunday is one of the happiest days of the year for many churches. And it should be. But not for the reasons most people think. As a child I always heard of Palm Sunday as that wondrous day when the crowds ruptured with excitement at the coming of Christ into the holy city. With pure and sincere hearts, mothers raised their children in the air to behold Jesus of Nazareth sitting on a colt. Others cast palm branches into the street and layered the road with their coats. Such a scene has become the proverbial image of mankind joyously welcoming his Messiah. But such is not an accurate port....

Actualización en "El Altar". Más material, nuevos escritores
Queridos Lectores:

Why Moralism is not the Gospel and why so many christians think it is
One of the most amazing statements by the Apostle Paul is his indictment of the Galatian Christians for abandoning the Gospel. "I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel," Paul declared. As he stated so emphatically, the Galatians had failed in the crucial test of discerning the authentic Gospel from its counterfeits.
His words could not be more clear: "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say agai....

How Paul Worked to Overcome Slavery
The historic and contemporary reality of slavery is never far away from how we think about the Bible. Instead of a frontal attack on the culturally pervasive institution of slavery in his day, Paul took another approach, for example, in his letter to Philemon.
Onesimus was a slave. His master Philemon was a Christian. Onesimus had evidently run away from Colossae (Colossians 4:9) to Rome where Paul, in prison, had led him to faith in Jesus. Now he was sending Onesimus back to Philemon. This letter tells Philemon how to receive Onesimus.
In the process, Paul does at least 11 things that work ....

The Real Jesus
Many claim Many claim to know a few things about Jesus Christ. But one thing is certain. If your perception of Jesus is based on any information other than the Bible, you probably don’t really know Jesus. In the last presidential race, certain politicians were waving Jesus’ famous Sermon on the Mount like a peace flag. But a simple blushing of the text finds Jesus stating that all men who have lusted in their hearts are adulterers (Matt. 5:28). Later, He says there will be many in the great Day of Judgment who did all kinds of things in the name of Christ, but because their deeds were not co....
